From sheep to finished bag, this one was made entirely by hand on my small Maine farm.

The wool for this one-of-a-kind shoulder bag comes from my own sheep. I processed the wool, spun the yarn by hand, and wove the hand dyed purple and natural hand patterned cloth before turning it into this soft bag.
The purple handspun has beautiful variations of violet and plum running through it, paired with natural wool for the bold woven pattern. I left the fringed edges visible around the top and handle attachments rather than hiding them away, giving the finished bag the relaxed folk-art character of the original handwoven cloth.
The coordinating handle was also handwoven and becomes part of the bag's shape—the sides draw inward and the center naturally slouches when the bag is carried.
Inside is a goldenrod organic cotton canvas lining with an interior pocket. The warm golden color gives a beautiful contrast to the purple wool and makes the inside easy to see.
This isn't commercially produced fabric made into a handmade bag. It begins here with the sheep and goes through the entire process by hand:
Sheep raised on my farm → wool processed by hand → yarn handspun → cloth handwoven → bag cut, lined and sewn by me in Maine.
Because the yarn is handspun and the cloth handwoven, variations in color, texture and weave are part of the piece and make this bag completely unique.
