Welcome to Baker River LC
I'm Laura, a Maine folk artist and craftsperson. For more than 35 years I've created original Heirloom artwork inspired by wildlife, rural life, and traditional craftsmanship.I use two profiles to feature some of my wool work and a variety of other skills I have on Facebook and go by L. Farrell Folk Art because I do not fit into a single box as an artist. So you can find me at both places. Baker River Leather was established many years ago and I keep it for that reason.
Every design begins as one of my own original drawings or carvings. From there, it may become a hand-tooled leather collar, a wallet, a woven wool bag, a kitchen towel, or another piece designed to bring a little warmth, beauty, and character into everyday life.
I raise sheep and Angora animals, spin and weave fiber, and work with leather using traditional techniques that celebrate slow craftsmanship and lasting quality. Whether I'm carving leather, weaving wool, or creating artwork for the home, my goal is always the same—to make meaningful pieces that tell a story and are meant to be used, loved, and enjoyed for years to come.
